FRESNO 2019 OPEN DOORS
Open Doors was held at the Robert E. Coyle Federal Courthouse in Fresno on March 1st. Eight schools participated with more than 300 students and chaperones in attendance. Six courtrooms hosted the Open Doors program this year in Fresno.
SACRAMENTO 2019 OPEN DOORS
This year the Robert T. Matsui Federal Courthouse welcomed over 850 students and chaperones from 17 schools across the Sacramento valley. Schools included C.K. McClatchy High School, Cosumnes Oaks High school, Delta High School, Elk Grove High School, Florin High School, George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science, Grant Union High School, Hiram Johnson High School, John F. Kennedy High School, Luther Burbank High School, Natomas Charter School Performing and Fine Arts Academy, Natomas High School, Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, Rio Americano High School, San Juan High School, Vacaville Christian High School, and West Campus High School.
Students spent the morning in a mock trial with judges from the federal, county and state courts. Assisted by federal attorneys from the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Federal Defender's Office, students litigated a criminal case involving nude photographs taken on a cell phone and child pornography charges.
Following the students deliberations and rendering their verdicts, the students heard from a variety of career speakers including US Marshals, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of California, Probation Officers, and other federal court personnel.
The students concluded their day with a visit to the Justice Anthony M. Kennedy Library and Learning Center.
REDDING 2019 OPEN DOORS
This was the inaugural year for Open Doors in Redding. We were pleased to welcome Enterprise High School, Redding Christian, and Stellar Charter School.
Our guest Career Speakers included staff and law enforcement from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
