LAW DAY YOSEMITE 2021
Does the Rule of Law Keep Us Free?
The Ninth Annual Law Day Yosemite was held on Friday, May 7, 2021, on Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Honorable Helen Barch-Kuchta was the Master of Ceremonies and our guest speaker was Professor David Alan Sklansky, a Criminal Law, Procedure and Evidence Professor at the Stanford Law School.
The 2021 Law Day Yosemite included an essay contest for grammar school students. The theme, Does the Rule of Law Keep Us Free, asked the questions "How and why is the Rule of Law important for maintaining a free society? What does it mean to take an oath to support and defend the Constitution and why is it important? Can you tie the importance of carefully and precisely worded oaths to the importance of the Rule of Law and a free society?" Students were asked to discuss these probing questions in an essay which were judged based on historical accuracy, remaining on topic, material organization, originality, interest, spelling, grammar, punctuation, in text citation and bibliography.
