SACRAMENTO and REDDING 2023 OPEN DOORS

This year the Robert T. Matsui Federal Courthouse and the Redding Federal Courthouse hosted Open Doors to Federal Courts to 14 high schools for over 700 students including Vacaville Christian, Mira Loma, Natomas Charter, Jesuit, Luther Burbank, John F. Kennedy, McClatchy, Rio Americano, San Juan, Laguna Creek, Grant Union, Shasta Trinity ROP, West Valley, and Foothill High Schools.

Students held a mock trial with judges from the federal bench. Assisted by federal attorneys from the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Federal Defender's Office, students litigated a criminal case involving a student alledgely cheating on a college entrance exam and charged with mail fraud.

Following the students deliberations and rendering their verdicts, the students heard from a few career speakers including U.S. Attorney Phil Talbert.
